Movember Fundraiser Event

Owasco employees participated in the Movember fundraiser event in order to raise money for prostate cancer. Members in this event grew facial hair for the month of November in order to gain awareness and support over prostate cancer. Owasco Inc. was also involved in this event by matching donations raised by Owasco Inc. employees.

Owasco employees raised a total of $2,270 in this event.

Owasco Inc. contributed another $2,270 for the Movember cause.

Overall Owasco Raised $4,540 in the Movember Event.

Relay for Life - Canadian Cancer Society

We are one of the biggest sponsors equaling Canadian Tire, CTV news and TD Bank for the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life Oshawa. Owasco is the official Survivor Sponsor at the Oshawa Relay, where Bob speaks from the heart about those touched by disease. When Owasco started working with the cancer society on the relay for life well over 10 years ago; very little money was being raised. Oshawa Relay alone now raises in excess of $ 500,000 each year. Owasco also enters it's own Relay team consisting of employees and members of their family. The company received a long standing award for our support in the Relay for Life from the Canadian Cancer Society

Whitby Minor Hockey

We are proud sponsor of Whitby Minor Hockey recognizing a new "Clean Player" each year and providing that child with a cheque to pay for their registration and a banner bearing their name which is displayed in Iroquios Park Sports Centre. We are also proud Title Sponsors of Rink 3, one of 6 Ice Pads at the Sports Centre

Hospital Foundations

We provide free weekend and weekly rentals of vehicles as prizes at many fundraising events throughout the year, ranging from local fashion shows to major Hospitatl Foundation Gala's; Rouge Valley Hospital Foundation, Lakeridge Health Foundation and Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. Thousands of dollars are raised to benefit these foundations to support research and purchase equipment. We are currently supporting the Rouge Valley Hospital Foundation at their Gala in their efforts to purchase MRI machines

Town of Whitby/Salvation Toy Drive "Stuff A Bug"

Together with the Town of Whitby, Bob came up with an idea of stuffing a car with toys for the kids in need. Starting with the Santa Claus Parade and tree lighting Ceremony we take the car to the local ice rink where it remains inside for people to stuff the car full of toys. This campaign is so successful and recognized by the poeple of Whitby that in the last few years we have had to empty the car several times to accommodate the volume. The Salvation Army distributes the toys to less fortunate families within the Durham Region

Mayfest - Community BBQ and Fundraiser

Our annual Mayfest Day is a community involvement day where we invite families to join us for a free BBQ where Bob is head chef and burger tosser! This free fun filled family event includes a petting zoo, paint ball shooting, jumping castle, pit stop challenge and much more. Owasco matches any donations collected at Mayfest with the total funds being given to the Canadian Cancer Society. We are celebrating our 19th Annual Mayfest this year

Best Buddies Challenge

In October 2010 Owasco teamed with Audi Canada participating in the first, Best Buddies Challenge, a 5k/10k run in Toronto which raised money for the Best Buddies Organization. Bob ran his first and probably last 10K in true Verwey style. Owasco was recognized by Audi Canada for the highest number of participants, consisting of employees and their families. This was a very proud moment for all concerned

Share Life

Owasco has partnered for many years with the Share Life organization providing vehicles for the Hole in One Challenge at their annual Golf Tournament. Bob has done door to door canvasing for his church to support of Share life

Durham College Marketing Advisory Committee "DCMC"

Bob Verwey is a long standing member of the Marketing Program Advisory Committee for the local Durham College. This Committee represented by faculty, students and business people, ensures that the programs are in line with what is required for today's young people to enter the work force. A program is in place at the dealership to supply local schools with unwanted tools and equipment for their shop needs

Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity

Owasco donates a large sum each year to the Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity, which is an organization od Global Missionaries founded by Mother Teresa. It is a humbling experience that Bob shares each year with a staff member when they go to present the cheque which provides help for the poorest of the poor. Vehicles are also provided (when needed) for the sisters to be transported to special events
